"Thank you black sheep 303 and Elena. I have been using my Cricut Maker for the last couple of years and for the most part, I absolutely love it. What I don't love is when materials don't cut the way that I expect. I wasn't really sure how to fix cutting issues, so usually I would just switch to a different material. But now I don't have to do that.
I received my Materials & Troubleshooting Reference Guide (PDF ) and I am delighted with how comprehensive it is — so many materials are covered in here! I can see details about the material and settings for my machine. This will save me so much time and wasted material. And the bonus of having troubleshooting right there on the same page as the material to help with those minor adjustments is fantastic. In the past, I've been too intimidated to try some of the fancier vinyls and fabrics. But now, with this reference guide, I'll definitely feel more comfortable giving them a try. Happy Crafting"

"The Reference Guide is an excellent resource with a wealth of well organized information. It is simple enough for the novice crafter and yet has detail enough for the more advanced user. You will want to keep it near your electronic cutting machine to reference frequently. The Machine Setting chart (bonus) is also a fantastic way to keep track of the materials that you use most often. If you are an avid fan of any electronic cutting machine you will want this guide."

I've been a crafter my entire life and that's a pretty long time (don't ask for a specific number - lol). I've been working with electronic cutting machines since the original Cricut Expression machine came out in 2010 (remember cartridges?) and the Silhouette Cameo appeared in 2011. I love them now but I also remember hating them!
The thing that seems to take the most time (after learning the software programs) is troubleshooting. How many projects have you been able to make without having to correct some kind of problem, either with the machine, the material or both?
Have you had to spend hours searching the Internet for answers to those problems? I have. But now, that is a thing of the past. I put together the Materials & Troubleshooting Reference Guide for Electronic Cutting Machines to help you overcome those problems, get crafting faster and with more confidence!

Want to make a stencil? What about some shrink plastic doo-dads? The guide has got you covered.
"Specialty" covers a lot of materials that don't fit elsewhere including felt, leather, craft foam, balsa wood and more.
"I have been following Elena for several years on You Tube. I not only love her work but she is excellent at giving instructions! Now that she has been specializing and focusing on the ScanNCut DX, Cricut and Silhouette machines, her talents, knowledge and teaching skills have really been highlighted with this fantastic manual.
I have no patience to learn something new or even take the time to use the technology to its fullest. So I love this manual! It has allowed me to use different materials and my machine to its fullest capabilities and without total frustration."

If you own an electronic cutting machine, you already know that at some point your machine will struggle to cut something. Often you have no idea why the cut isn't working.
With the Materials & Troubleshooting Reference Guide for Electronic Cutting Machines you will be able to look up the material, check the settings you are using and make adjustments based on the guide's suggested settings and troubleshooting tips.
No more hours spent on the Web looking for cut settings and ways to troubleshoot your specific machine and the material. If you want to save time and make your electronic cutting machine life easier then YES, the guide is right for you!
This guide offers a suggested cut settings chart for every one of the 100+ materials covered. The chart lists each manufacturer and under those includes the type of blade to use (and depth for Silhouette machines), the force/pressure setting to start with, the number of passes to expect, whether to use the half cut setting (ScanNCut DX machines only) and additional notes.
Since the cut settings can vary across one manufacturer's machines, the additional notes will often tell you whether certain machines can even cut the material or if there is a different setting needed for a specific machine (like a Cricut Explore Air vs. Maker).
CRICUT USERS: Don't know how to enter custom settings in Cricut Design Space? I've got a tutorial that will show you how. Click here to view the 5 minute YouTube video!
The cut settings provided are meant as a starting point when you run into problems with a manufacturer's suggested settings for a material or when a manufacturer doesn't list the material in their software options (Cricut & Silhouette only). There is no guarantee that the settings shown will work for your machine the first time because each machine has its own unique quirks. But, the guide does give you a place to start and where to go if further testing is needed.
There is a Troubleshooting 101 section near the beginning of the guide that gives you the tips that apply to ALL materials. These are where you should start when you run into problems. These are the same tips provided (in shorter format) on the BONUS Troubleshooting Checklist that can be easily kept near your machine.
Then, there are specific troubleshooting tips for every material shown below the cut settings chart (mentioned above). These are the ones to try when the 101 tips don't fix the problem. This is also the section where specific machine tips are detailed. Please note that some of these sections can seem repetitive because often the same tips apply to materials in the same category, but not always so you'll need to carefully go over them when needed for each material.
The troubleshooting tips are meant as a starting point for your machine. They may not work perfectly for your individual machine the first time. But they do give you a place to start and a place to go if further testing is needed for a material.
If only, but no, there is no guarantee
that the provided cut settings and/or troubleshooting tips will work the
first time you try to cut something or
are trying to troubleshoot a material.
Unfortunately, every machine has its
own individual quirks and so testing will undoubtedly still be required for your specific machine and some materials. But, the cut settings and troubleshooting tips will tell you where to start and where to go if you need to test a material beyond the initial cut or initial problem.
I have provided the BONUS blank cut settings chart so that you can record the settings for your machine that worked when testing is needed beyond the starting cut settings provided in the guide.
Though specific machines are not always mentioned for every material, I researched the following machines in order to provide settings and tips:
