For this month's challenge, the design team was asked to find a Technique Friday with Els video to inspire us to create a project. For me, I used Els' video "Coloring on Watercolor Paper" in which Els uses a multi-layered die cut owl and cuts the base layer from watercolor paper and then the more detailed layer from Black Soft Finish Cardstock, adheres them together and then watercolors the base layer with Distress Inks, using the black detailed layer as a type of barrier for her watercoloring the different sections of the owl. Since I was using stamps and not dies, I decided to emboss the black "barrier" lines for my watercoloring, but the basic principle I used is the same.
For today's challenge Elizabeth Craft Designs is giving away a $20 Gift Card to three lucky winners!
To enter simply click here to leave a comment on the Elizabeth Craft Designs Challenge post saying what is your favorite technique learned from the Technique Friday With Els series. Comments left on my blog are appreciated, but will not enter you into the giveaway. You must comment on the Elizabeth Craft Designs July Challenge post. Thanks!
They will select 3 lucky winners in a random drawing to be announced on Friday, July 21, 2017 on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog.
Here’s how I made the card:
1. Use an embossing powder tool to remove any static from the smoother side of a piece of Elizabeth Craft Designs Watercolor Paper. Stamp the dress, handbag, 2 shoes (only 1 shoe shown in photo), sunglasses and the separate flower from the Fashions 2 Clear Stamps set on to the paper in a black pigment ink. Cover with black embossing powder and heat emboss the images to create “barrier” lines for the watercolor you will be doing. Use Distress Inks, water and a brush to color the images. The inks I used were Mermaid Lagoon (dress & sunglasses, stripe on handbag), Picked Raspberry (shoes, handbag, separate flower), Squeezed Lemonade, Mustard Seed (blooms on dress, stripe and clasp on handbag); Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn (flower leaves); Black Soot (sunglasses lenses – later I cover these with Black Glaze Pen).
2. Use the same technique from Step 1 to stamp and emboss the “Be Brave, Be Bold, Be You” sentiment from Fashionable Phrases Clear Stamps also on to Elizabeth Craft Designs Watercolor Paper. Trim it down to 1 ¾” x 2 ½”. Cut the same size piece of Perfect Pink Soft Finish Cardstock to offset behind the sentiment on the finished card (not pictured here; see Step 3).
3. Die cut out the watercolored fashion images with the matching Fashions 2 dies. Use the Stitched Circles dies to die cut the second largest circle from the bright purple polka dot paper in the ModaScrap Thinking About Rio de Janeiro 12 x 12 Paper Pack. Create a 5” x 5” card base by cutting a piece of 100 lb. White Soft Finish Cardstock to 5” x 10” and folding in half. Adhere the purple circle to the front of the white card base with 6 mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape. Also use 6 mm Tape to adhere the sentiment to the offset piece of pink cardstock and then adhere into the upper left corner of the card front. Use 3 mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape to adhere all the fashion pieces, except the separate flower, to the front of the card. Use Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle Marker to highlight the separate flower and pop it up on the shoulder of the dress with some foam tape.
4. For finishing touches add matching sequins in yellow, pink and blue here and there across the card front, adhering with liquid adhesive. Add Glossy Accents to the yellow flowers on the dress and allow to dry completely. Enjoy!
