Elizabeth Craft Designs Designers' Coloring Challenge -
Inside Out

CLICK HERE for the SUPPLY LIST.

For this month's challenge, we were asked to create cards with an emphasis on decorating the inside, which is not the norm (at least for me). But, Elizabeth Craft Designs has a gazillion options for fun things on the insides of cards and I could not resist trying out the Flower Pot Pop Stand Die set as my inside focal point. But, instead of using it as a flower pot, I am using it as a sort of "jack-in'the-box" for a baby card. I hope you enjoy my take on "Inside Out".

Click the video link or follow the steps and photos below.

For today's challenge, Elizabeth Craft Designs is giving away a $20 gift card to use on their website to 3 winners.
To enter simply leave a comment on the Elizabeth Craft Designs Challenge post and tell us "What is your favorite or most used sentiment when creating a card?”. Leaving a comment HERE or on the YouTube video will not enter you into the drawing. Please click the link to the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog post above and leave a comment there. Thanks!

They will select 3 lucky winners in a random drawing. The winners will be announced on Friday, April 21 on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog.

Here’s how I made the card:

1. Stamp the Panda, Giraffe, Larger Elephant & Giraffe, and Present stamps from the Zoo Babies Clear Stamps in permanent black ink on a piece of white alcohol marker friendly cardstock. Color with markers of your choice; I used Spectrum Noirs & Copics in the following colors – PL2, PL4, PL5 (Purples); BT2, TB1 (Light Blues); CT1, CT2, CT4 (Yellows); TN7, TN8 (Browns); IG1, IG2, IG4, IG6 (Grays); DG3 (Green); PP1 (pink); True Black & Blender; B24 & B29 (Copics for Darker Blues). Die cut out with the matching dies (not pictured).

2. Cut a piece of 85 lb. White Soft Finish Cardstock to 6” x 6” and stamp randomly all over it with the small hearts stamp from Zoo Babies in ink colors that match the Soft Sky, Bluebell, Dark Fuchsia Soft Finish Cardstocks as well as the light purple and yellow coloring from Step 1 to create your own patterned paper; see Supply List below for the inks I used. Fill in any empty spots with the single heart stamp from Zoo Babies and a black marker to create dots here and there. Cut a 2 ½” x 5” piece of 85 lb. White Soft Finish Cardstock and Soft Sky Soft Finish Cardstock. Stamp the gray piece in purple ink using the dots stamp from the Jungle Cuties Clear Stamps and fill in some of the dots randomly with a black glaze pen and a white glaze pen. Stamp the white piece with the flowers stamp from Zoo Babies Clear Stamps in blue inks and fill in any spaces with the single heart stamp in purple.

3. Cut a piece of 100 lb. White Soft Finish Cardstock to 6” x 10” and fold in half to create the card base (5” x 6”). Using the Flower Pot Pop Stand Dies, die cut 2 pot bases and 2 inner mechanism tab sets out of Silver Gray Soft Finish Cardstock, 2 pot side panels each and 2 pot flap panels each out of the now patterned Soft Sky and 85 lb. White pieces from Step 2.

4. Put the flower pot together by bending and scoring all of the folds on the different pieces. Adhere the side panels to the outsides of the pot bases using Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape. Add tape to the side tabs on the pot bases and adhere one tab on the left side of a pot base to the inside of the other pot base (side with no tab). Then slot together the inner folding tabs and add 6 mm tape to the tabs that are facing up. Flip the tabs over and line up the center of the inner folding tabs with the center fold on the inside of the pot base piece and the tops of the inner folding tabs with the fold between the base panels and top flaps on the pot base (see dotted lines in photo A). Once aligned press down to adhere the taped flaps to the inside. Then add tape to the flaps that are facing up and bring the side of the pot base that has a loose side tab on it over and press in place on to the tape of the inner tabs. Then bring the remaining pot base piece over and adhere to the other base piece at the side tab while also pressing it on to the tape on the inner folding tabs.

5. Once the pot is complete, add the Panda (which will stick out the most) to the inside of the pot using 3 mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the back of the mushroom and press it into place on the inner folding tabs. Line up the nubs on the pop up mechanism die along the center fold of the card base with the arrow pointing to the left. Flatten the pot and line it up against the angle on the mechanism die. Move the pot and mechanism die along the center card base fold line until the panda does not stick out past the side of the card base. Then secure the mechanism die in place on the card base and die cut out.

6. Fold back the tabs that have been cut into the card base and fit the flower pot on top of the tabs so you can see how to adhere them together. Place 10 mm tape on to the tabs on the appropriate sides and press on to the insides of the flower pot to adhere in place. You may need to poke up through the holes in the base to get good contact between the flaps and the insides of the pot (photo A). Open and close the card base to ensure that the pot is folding and unfolding correctly; adjust if needed. Die cut out several balloons from the different Soft Finish colored cardstocks using the Bird-Day Party balloon die and color the strings with a black marker. Using 3 mm tape, adhere these balloons, the stamped presents and the stamped giraffe to the inside of the pot to create a festive baby jack-in-the-box (photo B).

7. Cut the 6” x 6” piece of patterned paper from Step 2 into three 2” x 6” strips. Using 10 mm tape, adhere one of each to the inside edges of the card base (you will have an extra strip that you can use for a different project). Using the scalloped Pull Card Edges die, die cut out 4 pieces of 6” x ¾” Bluebell Soft Finish Cardstock (you will have to move and match up the die and run it through a second time for each piece to get a 6” length). Adhere 2 of these right along the patterned pieces on the inside of the card. Run a strip of 3 mm tape straight along the edge between the patterned and blue pieces, remove the backing, sprinkle with Bright Grape Silk Microfine Glitter and burnish down for high shine. Clean up excess glitter with a Swiffer cloth if necessary. Repeat on the other side.

8. Stamp the “Welcome Little One”, “Congrats on Your New”, “Baby” and “Boy” sentiment from the Baby Clear Stamps set in detail black ink on to 85 lb. White Soft Finish Cardstock. Punch or die cut out the “Welcome Little One” sentiment using a 1 ¾” circle die or punch. Cut a second circle to mat the first and color using yellow markers to match the yellow on the rest of the card. Adhere together to create a circle greeting and add to the left side of the inner card, between the pot and patterned paper. Adhere the “Congrats…” and “Baby” and “Boy” sentiments together with tape and fussy cut around them leaving a white border. Adhere this on to a piece of Soft Sky Cardstock and fussy cut around it again leaving a blue border. Using tape, adhere this down, along with a purple and yellow balloon (die cut in Step 6) to the right hand side of the inner card. The inside is done!

9. Die cut the smallest heart in the Stitched Hearts Dies out of Bluebell Soft Finish Cardstock and adhere over the hole in the back of the card that was created when you cut the pop-up mechanism out of the base. Adhere a piece of 85 lb. White Soft Finish Cardstock on to the front of the card base to cover that hole; this piece may be 5” x 6” or a bit larger (as mine was) to cover anything that may stick out the sides of the card when the flower pot is closed down. Tape down the 2 remaining pieces of scalloped Bluebell cardstock from Step 7 along the top and bottom edges of the card front. Repeat the process of adding a strip of 3 mm tape and Bright Grape glitter to the edges. Adhere down the large Elephant and Giraffe stamped and die cut image to the center of the front panel. Enjoy!
